Labor Day is just around the corner, and that means plenty of time outside barbecuing and sitting back, enjoying taking a break from the work-a-day world. The problem: bugs don't take a day off. When I was a kid, we had one of those zappers that would attract the pesky critters and then, when they got too close, fry them with an obnoxious "zapp" sound I think scarred me for life. The GE Bug Lite is a bit more humane.

I've been a fan of Caba Company ever since I ran across them a few years ago, while looking for cool wallpaper options. I love how they hand-pound organic tree bark to make these wonderfully textured pieces. Now, they've innovated on their process by adding resin laminated glass to make Barkskin Glass.

Autumn is only three days old and I've already fallen behind in the home-repair projects I need to make before winter roars in. However, I am making some progress.
I was on the roof recently replacing some blown-off shingles, and noticed that the cement crown on top of the chimney was deteriorating. It had several hairline cracks and the cement along the edges had chipped off.
This was definitely the kind of repair that had to be completed before winter. If not, rain and melted snow could seep into the cracks, freeze, expand and bust off more cement. And by the time next spring rolled around, the damage could be much worse, and then I'd have to replace the entire crown and even repoint or replace some bricks.
Anyway, I decided to make these minor problems now to avoid a major repair in the near future.

We've seen countertops running the gamut from granite to concrete. Are we jaded? Probably. Does someone out there actually have jade countertops? It's possible. But I'm not interested in semi-precious slabs of total excess. It's the simple things that send me these days, and what's more simple than cork? That's right...the stopper from my last bottle of wine had way more potential than I thought possible.

I'm not about to retire my hammer any time soon (tough luck Mr. Thumb) but it has been getting a lot less use since I purchased the new Duo-Fast 20-degree Round-Head Framing Nailer. No great surprise there: Once you get accustomed to driving nails instananeously with the simple squeeze of a trigger, it's hard to go back to pounding nails by hand.
However, the newly designed Model DF350S (about $300) offers more than just convenience; it also happens to be one of the most thoughtfully engineered and safest air-powered nailers available.
